Make A Friendship Quilt
Friendship quilts probably began as a way for friends and family to stay connected and remember friends and family who had moved away. Many a pioneer woman, when leaving her family and friends behind, were given a quilt made and signed by different members of her family and special friends.
Today there are many ways a friendship quilt can be made. Probably the simplest would be for one quilter to decide on the design and invite friends or family to sign their names on a block. The names can be done in permanent ink or embroidered by the quilter or the individual.
Another idea would be for a group of quilters to get together and each person make one or more blocks and these blocks can all be put together into one quilt. The blocks could all be the same pattern with different fabrics or one color scheme with different patterns.
Friendship quilts can also be made with pictures using a computer printer to print photos onto fabric.
Friendship quilts make great wedding gifts, baby gifts or gifts for friends moving. They are also great ways to commemorate a milestone anniversary or birthday.
